The good news: Melissa and I are still married.
The bad news: the California State Supreme Court has upheld Prop. 8, meaning that all gay and lesbian couples in California are now constitutionally prohibited from marrying. (To add to the injury, it was a 6-1 ruling.)
Melissa and I feel lucky to have friends, family, and coworkers who celebrate and honor our commitment to each other. Please stop and think about what you can do today (and tomorrow and next week and next month) to see that the handful of us who were able to marry in California between June 17, 2008 and November 4, 2008 are not the last.
I’ll be at tonight’s vigil with the sign I made last fall—”Knitters say K2tog: it’s a good thing.”
I was really sad to hear this news this morning. I’m glad that you and Melissa can keep your marital rights and that you’re not going to be forced to get divorced.
I’m just so sorry. I just don’t understand and am so disappointed.
Wish I was there with you both. Am missing you both and now I wish I could come home to give you both hugs. Words fail me. My love to you and all of your friends tonight. (I am happy that you and Melissa and still married!)

OK – that video was a 3-tissue start to my morning & made my make-up run! However, that’s pretty minor when compared to the crappy decision that was made about Prop 8. On the good side, they’re not considering you folks who did get married during that period to now be un-married. (So – nearing your 1st anniversary, I’ll say “Pre-congrats!”) 🙂
Keep the faith – more & more states ARE passing gay marriage laws – maybe sometime in the future California will once again be the progressive state it used to be.
Me no understand. How can you be married only recently, but now you ain’t? Sorry to be dim, but it’s something to be with Cali law. Hopefully all will be resolved very soon.

It’s so not right – I’m baffled by CA politics. Also can’t wait to see what happens with the schools, roads, etc. when the money runs out. Hmmm.
Perhaps you want to come to MA sometime? The cats can play in the snow and you can wear your great hat pattern all winter long 🙂

This sucks. But here’s the thing…it’s gonna happen. Every state in the country is going to have to figure it out sooner or later. Why? Because it’s wrong to keep people from marrying who love each other. It’s wrong like keeping women from voting was wrong. It’s wrong like not allowing interracial couples to marry. It’s wrong. Plain and simple. My mom and her partner live in Michigan where they changed the constitution and someday that will change. Why? Because they’re wrong.
