As you may recall, on our road trip to Oregon last summer, Melissa and I had great fun spotting and photographing interesting roadside signs. This year, while in the midwest, we kept our eyes peeled for similar delights.
We found the giant chicken.
We were also delighted by the sign posted on Otter Boy’s bedroom door.
As you can perhaps tell, his fondness for otters is matched by his fondness for apes and monkeys.
What we hadn’t anticipated was the somewhat menacing nature of many of the signs we encountered. Next to Riverside Stadium, where we watched the Lumber Kings play, we received this warning not to get too caught up in frivolities.
In a strange sort of yin and yang, we received reminders of both death and life.
The embryos are livestock, not human, but our first glimpse of that sign was a bit unnerving.
Meanwhile, on the knitting font, my LYS (The Golden Fleece) just got in a big shipment of the new Kaffe Fassett yarn, Colourscape Chunky, from Rowan. I have been given a skein with which to knit up a quick project that will help seduce people into purchasing a skein or two (as if the combination of gorgeous colors and Kaffe’s name aren’t lures enough).
They’ve also received copies of Rowan Magazine 44, which is my favorite issue in quite some time. Each of the “chapters” features lovely knits, and there are none of those unsettling what-were-they-thinking? stretches that one can stumble across in Rowan publications.
There are classic knits, named for screen sirens, like Lombard—
Wonderful colorwork, both fair isle and embroidered—
I am going to be leafing through this issue dreaming (and drooling) for weeks to come.
